Overview

Volunteering is firmly embedded in UK culture. Many taken for granted services, such as support from the Samaritans, the National Lifeboat Service and Mountain Rescue would not exist without volunteering. It is estimated that volunteering makes a £46 billion contribution each year to the UK economy. At present volunteering is the subject of considerable government interest as attempts are made to rekindle engagement and trust in civic society and to achieve social integration in a
multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-faith society with considerable polarisation between young and old.

What will I learn?

This day will examine the changing culture of volunteering from the end of life care perspective. Issues such as:

What roles should volunteers provide?
How should we train volunteers?
What expectations should we have of volunteers and/or how can we develop volunteers qualities
How do we communicate with volunteers?
How do we inform volunteers about organisational objectives and activities?

These will be addressed through presentations and practical workshops
